Synopsis
A Montana ranching family clashes with other intruders on their land. Forrie J. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) often seems to “forget” his Montana accent and reverts to his normal Southern California speaking voice. One from developers who want to build apartments
This series has been on air since 2018 but this is my first time watching it. Last night I finished the first episode of the first season, it’s almost 90 minutes long. As for the introduction of the Dutton family, we see that they have a strong influence in their valley, but they repel the “invasions”. Another from a nearby nature reserve is trying to take back some of their land and livestock.
For example, with children born around 1875, 1900, 1925, and the 1950s
To manage all this and the limitless size of his ranch, Dutton (played for real by 60-year-old Kevin Costner) has several grown cowboys and a helicopter with a dedicated pilot. The reason I watched the first episode of the first season (streamed on Peacock) was to get to know the Dutton family, because I’m currently watching ten episodes of Taylor Sheridan’s latest show, 1883, which is sort of a prequel. It happened (fictionally) in 1883, when the Dutton family of Tennessee joined a larger group to travel by wagon train from Fort Worth, Texas “somewhere west.” They must have stopped when they got to Montana. Again, it’s all fiction, but if we look at the men’s ages and the fact that Costner was born in 1955, his character would likely be the grandson of patriarch Dutton (played by Tim McGraw) in 1883.
Now that I’m 70, I prefer to spend my time watching “nice” stories
“Yellowstone” is a really beautiful series, the actors are all top notch, the photography and sound are excellent. It’s just not the kind of show I can invest in and keep watching. It’s hard to find characters with redeeming qualities, and I don’t really like series that focus on constantly bickering and fighting and often killing. NOTE – “1883” is a really beautiful and interesting series as it genuinely depicts the great hardships of uprooting and traveling through unknown territories to try to find a new life in a new place.
